- You can remain in your sleeper until 08:00 on arrival at Edinburgh & Glasgow.
- Sunday departure times often vary, so please double-check when you book.
- If you have a BritRail pass, an All-Line Rail Rover, or simply an regular flexible Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak or Anytime train ticket between London & Scotland, you can travel in a sleeper by paying the sleeper berth supplement.
- You can use the lounge car in the evening and morning.
- There are two toilets at one end of the corridor in each sleeping-car. These can be used even when the train is standing in a station.
- Luggage goes on the rack above the window or the shelf above the lower berth. Extra-large items can travel in the baggage car, free of charge.
- The compartment doors lock securely from the inside. Your steward can lock it for you from the outside if you want to go to the lounge car.
- There is an inter-connecting door between each pair of adjacent sleeper compartments, normally kept locked shut.
- Each sleeping-car on the train is set up either as all standard class 2-berth or as all first class 1-berth.
Breakfast can be ordered at extra cost (Standard class)
- First class passengers get a complimentary sleep kit with flannel, washing gel and lotion, eye mask, ear plugs, and an aromatic pillow spray. Breakfast is included
- First & Standard class sleepers are identical, a first class sleeper is simply a standard class sleeper with the upper berth out of use folded against the wall.
The lounge car...
- Officially, access to the lounge may be limited to first class passengers at busy times

- Power outlets: In the sleeper compartments there is now a set of USB charging sockets. There are also standard UK 3-pin power sockets in the sleeper lounge car, located on the tables between the sofas.
- WiFi: No WiFi, but good 3G mobile data coverage along most of the route, give or take a few wilder spots in the highlands. There is WiFi in some of the first class lounges at major stations including as London Euston.
- Showers: No showers on the sleeper train itself, but several major stations have shower facilities. On arrival by sleeper at London Euston you can take a shower in the Virgin Trains first class lounge on the first floor, free of charge for 1st class passengers, £5 for standard class passengers if you ask for a token from your Caledonian sleeper host on board the train. The Virgin Trains staff at the lounge reception desk will lend you a towel and the shower cubicles are provided with gel and shampoo. There are free showers for 1st class passengers at Aberdeen & Ft William. There are shower facilities for which a charge is made in the station toilets at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness & Fort William.

- Check in with your sleeper steward, leave your luggage in your compartment, and go and grab a seat in the lounge car before the train leaves. On busy nights such as Fridays or Sundays the lounge is very popular and if you wait till later you might find all seats taken. Finding a seat for breakfast in the morning isn't usually any problem, and the big lounge windows give you the best view of the highland scenery over you bacon and scrambled egg..."
